Stanford's own Twiggy

My needs are always met! In February this year I was sorely in need of some time away from Oak Grove Farm, I needed some extra nourishment, I needed some really upmarket socialising and, obviously, I needed some easy money... :)

My friend, Aveline Kyffin, phoned me and began asking me questions such as what size clothes I wore and how tall was I? Would I be interested in a week's work in an International TV advert? All big top secret stuff - no names could be mentioned and I was left to ponder who the top British model was that I was being asked to stand-in and be stunt-double for. When I asked if I may be too old, I was assured I was younger than the actual model!

To pass the "screen test" my name was simply 'Googled' by the director's production secretary, Jane Warren, who could then pass on one of my recent photographs to Stuart Butterworth and the film director, whose name escapes me for now, which shows a really poor memory as I even gave him an hour Reiki massage .

When interviewed by the director and approved by the hairdresser, I was pleased to find out that my hair, looked after always by Belinda van der Merwe, of Hair by Belinda, was perfect for the car scene!

I had a lot of fun doing this and I must admit that it was one of the biggest compliments I ever could receive... Thanks Twiggy! I have to just say here that my late mother, Jill Jacqueline Baker, was never one to pass compliments easily and once was mean enough to liken my legs to tree trunks. Well, tree trunks, twigs, Fynbos, grass, whatever! Of course I have forgiven her, but this was sweet justice. At least Mick Jagger and Lizzie Jagger got the benefit of my South African sense of humour. Speaking of my late mother, I will mention here my late father too, Allan Clive Baker who left me with the adage: Rather make a fool of yourself than be a fool.

I'm crazy about lighthouses and have a collection of calendars and photographs depicting lighthouses. I love this song and sing it every day all day - I've asked my husband to take a job as a lighthouse keeper when he retires. LOL ! I think Twiggy and Mylene are great and I wish I could loose a few inches to look good in the lovely clothes. Any chance of a make-over - LOL.kool_kat

This is the most catchy tune I have heard for a long time - the memory of it lingers!

In their attempt to get some street cred, I thought that M&S were on a bit of a groovy drug trip with the songs that they were using in their ads. What with `I'm coming up' and `Itchycoo Park', I was confidently predicting that they'd be using Lou Reed's `I'm waiting for my man', or JJ Cale's `Cocaine' for their next ads. But, hey, they've taken a bit of a side step, and they've left the drugs anthems and gone for an early sex anthem. I may be wrong, but I think `I want to marry a lighthouse keeper' is a pretty suggestive song about knobs. I mean not many other lads can reliably offer a two hundred foot erection can they? I'm pretty sure that Stanley Kubrik was playing on this when he used it in Clockwork Orange. It's a song about sex and erections, albeit quite coy, but that's what it's all about. The ad is nicely done and some of the clothes look pretty good, as our girls dance in, and around their huge illuminated phallus. If M&S have gone off into the world of sex I can only start to wonder what songs will feature in their next commercials. There's the whole Barry White canon, the awesome Beany Man, with `Girls dem sugar', as well as a lot of Rolling Stones stuff - Parachute Woman, land on me tonight - what was that all about? But then having done drugs and sex, they might just go off into rock and roll, much less controversial, but potentially a bit dull, I really can't say.
